Meandering On

Am buoyed by various recent events -

* Mass market edition of The Good Fairies of New York selling like hot cakes. Do things still sell like hot cakes? I can't think of another expression. Anyway it's selling well.

* This good review of Lonely Werewolf Girl in Bookslut. Bookslut is a really fine name for a literary site. Good site too.

* Only nine days till first Arsenal pre-season friendly. All Arsenal pre-season friendlies now shown on TV, even the most obscure matches against non-league opposition. This is more like it, it's what I pay the cable company for.

* Watching Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered, an episode of Buffy from season two, and always one of my favourites. Xander's love-spell goes disastrously wrong and everyone falls in love with him except Cordelia. Even vampire Drusilla falls in love with him. I never tire of this episode.

* Healthy leek and potato soup from the supermarket. Well, they say it's healthy. It comes in a cardboard carton instead of a can so that seems quite healthy, really.

Spirits dampened only slightly by sore leg. Probably only a strained muscle, but may in course of time turn out to be a serious wasting disease which will eventually confine me to a wheelchair, we'll just have to wait and see how this turns out.

And I hope your leg gets better.

  3. I'm not sure if your link is displaying properly, Lucy Fur, or maybe it just isn't displaying right in my Safari browser. Anyway I'll write it again -

I'm also appalled at the thought of anything cooked in bear grease. Ew. But now I do want a hot cake.

  5. Hot cakes are selling well. It's the SMELL, you see, the smell that drives everyone crazy.

  6. Hi Martin, I really love your books, thanks for taking the time to write them!

One day I'm going to be a writer too... only everything turns out tragic in the end.

You see in several years I publish a book soooo controversial that just like Salman Rushdie, an angry muslim cleric decrees a fatwah on me. Within a few months I am dead, via assasination.

It's a very sad day. It rains at my funeral. You come and give such a lovely eulogy. They award me the booker prize, posthumously of course.

    Hope you are well.
    Best wishes,
    Darkly

P.S. The above was intended as a form of humour. Misanthropes unite!

  7. Great news on the books, they should be selling well, as they are wonderful!!

I wish I lived in London, I would so teach you to cook Potato leek soup is even easier than Crumble.

And about the leg, a nurse friend once told me that once you rule out malignant brain tumor, all the rest is easy...

  8. Hey! I'm your biggest fan!
Well, not really, seeing as I've only read the Good Fairies of New York and The Lonely Werewolf Girl.
Which, by the way, has inspired a band between me and my friends. We almost used Yum Yum Sugary Snacks..but decided against it. I felt intimidated by all the drinking I might have to do.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to reading Suzy, and I wanted to thank you for your amaziness!

I will post more blog related things to you later..I sweareth.

  9. RE: Good Fairies vs. Hotcakes

Oh my god, you are not even kidding. We're selling about a copy a day AT LEAST in the bookshop I work at. It's gotten to the point where I just keep a small stack at the register and tell people buying like minded stuff "By the way, you should read this"

    And it works.

Which is good, because I believe authors I like should be woken up in the morning by cargo trucks full of royalty money.

  10. I must say that 'I only have eyes for you' might be my favorite season two episode, but I agree that any Xander-centric episode is good. :)
