Unexpected Dentistry

I'm still in the grip of Final Fantasy 13, and unable to break free. I'm surprised at my own capacity for doing absolutely nothing except play my Playstation. There's starting to be something epic about it.
I had to go the dentist. Not great, as I still have problems travelling there. (Agoraphobia update: not much progress) But maybe it's not so bad. Perhaps it would break me out of my Playstation obsession and get me back to doing other things. Like writing. Which, I believe, I did do at one time.
Travelled on bus to dentist. Slight toothache. I'm assuming this is just a worn filling needing a little attention. However the dentist deems suspicious as he pokes around in my mouth. He takes an X-Ray. Minutes late he announces that the nerve has to come out right away. So now I'm having unexpected root-canal surgery. A poor time in the dentist's chair follows immediately.  And I was already having a poor time with having to travel. All in all this was not a great experience.
Some time later I limped back out into Brixton and caught a taxi home, not in the best of moods. Have now retreated back to  the Playstation, which is much more agreeable than real life.

  2. Ouch! Feel better, and I hope they gave you good medication to dull the suffering.
    Have a great Sunday!

  3. Hope you feel better! I too had an unexpected trip to the dentist this week. I was certain that I needed a root canal and was sick to my stomach just thinking about it, but alas I lucked out and it was just a chipped filling that needed to be replaced.

  4. Ouch! Hope you feel better soon.

(for me, having them do the work then & there rather than have it hang over me, and have to go back for it, would have been a good thing, but then my terror of dentists is greater than my fear of just about anything else...)

  7. I tolerate pain pretty well but having a root canal was one of the worst experiences of my life. Every time the dentist drilled into my tooth I wanted to fly up to the ceiling and hang there hissing like a B-movie vampire.

Boooo root canals! Yeaaaa Playstation (or whatever one's method of escapism is)!

  9. And I appreciate other people's sympathy too - Mary, Tommy, Marjorie and Maggie and Franki. It was a poor experience. But I'm recovering now.

  10. I've had root canal and done childbirth. Root canal is much the more unpleasant experience.

Playstation seems more productive than the noxious Facebook farming game which has me it its claws. No matter how much I want to stop, I have to go back and harvest just one more crop.

Maybe I should go for dental treatment.

Oh, Final Fantasy! 40-year old lawyers should not be playing video games but every time a new version comes out, I clear my calendar and play every night until I'm done. Then, I don't touch the PS until a new version comes out in 2 years or so. Just give in to the temptation and play until you defeat the final boss. Then you can put it away . . . until the next version of FF. Wouldn't it be great if they made a FF version of Curse of the Werewolf girl?

  13. My root canal surgery went on for at last 3 sessions and I had to recover about 8 weeks from it. But it was not as bad, as y broken wrist :oD I hope all is well today.
I have played every part of the FF series from 6 to 13 and 14 (online) I was playing since last week from first alpha version on. FF 13 is the first part i could not play until the end. I was soooooo bored while playing it. I switched to Star Ocean 4, that is a quite better FF than FF 13 imo. Best wishes!

I don't know why people seem to be terrified of root canal therapy so much. When I had mine done by my Easley dentist, I didn't experience pain during the procedure at all, and it was completely bearable after that.

Why do you think this is so, Martin? I'm baffled by this common fear. There in Easley, SC, dentists were really gentle to me, and they used anesthesia properly, so the procedure turned out great.
